Lois Cowan

Lois:

I was initially attracted to kayaking to get me across a lake as part of a triathlon event. I loved it so ventured further afield and explored the Marlborough Sounds. On moving to Christchurch I took up white water paddling, a great way to develop some survival strokes. The white water boat has been in retirement for a while now. I enjoy sea kayaking as a way to explore the coast with friends and have close encounters with nature. I have had the opportunity to sea kayaking around Christchurch area and at times ventured further afield in Australia, Fiji, Turkey, Tonga and almost Alaska (KASK Magazine article).

KASK's aims are to:

1. Promote and encourage the sport of sea kayaking
2. Promote safety standards
3. Develop techniques and equipment
4. Deal with issues of coastal access and protection
5. Organise sea kayak forums around the country
6. Publish the Sea Canoeist Newsletter and the KASK Handbook
