Robert Brown

I have always had saltwater running though my veins, coming from a yachting background and always having some type of watercraft. I got my first sea kayak in the late 1990s, a Puffin. At that time work and OE got in the away so it was sold. In 2010 I did my skills class with Canoe & Kayak on the North Shore. I picked up a secondhand Albatross on TradeMe and from then on paddled as much as possible. Next a Southern Skua and have paddled parts of the North Island and upper South Island. Done a number of solo trips, Auckland to Tauranga, 380 km and Tutukaka to the Bay of Islands. However I do not want to solo the North Island or paddle D’Urville Island or Cook Strait. I am a Leader for YakityYak Auckland and a member of a number of clubs and networks.

KASK's aims are to:

1. Promote and encourage the sport of sea kayaking
2. Promote safety standards
3. Develop techniques and equipment
4. Deal with issues of coastal access and protection
5. Organise sea kayak forums around the country
6. Publish the Sea Canoeist Newsletter and the KASK Handbook
